TMJ/TMD Care

Jaw pain, headaches or difficulty chewing shouldn’t be part of your daily life. Our care looks at the jaw, neck and posture together to help you find relief.

Jaw problems are often mistaken for something else.

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint itself, the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. TMD (temporomandibular disorder) describes dysfunction in that joint, the surrounding muscles or nerves. Because symptoms can overlap with migraines, toothaches or ear problems, TMD can be overlooked.

Some mild cases improve over time, but others may need care to help prevent chronic pain, restricted jaw movement and poor sleep. Our approach aims to address the underlying contributors, not just the symptoms.

Signs your jaw may be involved.

If any of these sound familiar, a hands-on evaluation may help.

Jaw Locking

A jaw that locks or makes it hard to open your mouth fully.

Ear Symptoms

Grinding or Clenching

Teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism), especially at night.

Neck & Posture Tension

Neck tension and posture habits that add strain to the jaw.

Hands-on care for the jaw and neck.

Your evaluation includes an assessment of jaw movement, muscle tension, posture and medical history. Your plan may include hands-on techniques to release tight muscles, joint mobilization and gentle stretching to restore range of motion, and exercises to stabilize and support jaw movement.

Postural retraining, relaxation techniques for stress-related clenching, education on jaw habits and a home exercise plan help support longer-term relief and fewer flare-ups.

No referral needed. Most commercial plans, including Medicare, accepted. TMJ/TMD care is offered at Oak Hills Back & Neck Care Center.
