A DOT physical is a medical evaluation required for many commercial drivers. It is performed by a medical examiner listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry and assesses whether a driver meets the applicable physical qualification standards for operating a commercial motor vehicle.

What to expect during your exam.
Medical History Review
You’ll be asked about your medical history, current medications and any relevant health conditions. Bring documentation from your healthcare provider if you have a condition or take prescription medications.
Screenings & Physical Exam
Your blood pressure, pulse, vision and hearing are checked according to applicable DOT requirements, and the medical examiner performs the required physical assessment.
Certification & Next Steps
The examiner determines whether you meet the applicable standards. Depending on the results, you may be certified, certified for a shorter period, or asked for more information or evaluation.
