Annette White and Dr. Scott Jutte | Beyond the Adjustment with Dickson Chiropractic

June 26, 2025

In this episode of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Scott sits down with Annette White, owner of Bungee Fitness Factory, to talk about her powerful journey from over 300 pounds to a thriving fitness business owner. Annette shares how bungee fitness offers a low-impact, high-reward workout for all ages and why building muscle is crucial for long-term health and independence.

Dr. Scott: So today I want to welcome Annette White to the podcast. As we’ve discussed, this podcast is about bringing together local health businesses because we recognize that health is like a jigsaw puzzle—there are many pieces that need to fit together. That’s what inspired this podcast.
Your business is Bungee Fitness Factory. Why don’t you go ahead and tell us a little about that?

Annette White: Absolutely. My health journey started at age 32 after my mother had a near-massive heart attack. She weighed 285 pounds, and it really scared me. I went home and stepped on the scale—and it wouldn’t weigh me because I was over 300 pounds. That was my wake-up call. That was over 20 years ago.

I’ve been a fitness instructor ever since. It’s a passion—I don’t do it for money. Heart disease runs in my family, so I knew I had to take control. I worked at a desk for years, which wrecked my posture, and I’d run home just to teach kickboxing, Zumba, and now bungee fitness classes.

About three years ago, I got tired of sitting at that desk. I took a leap of faith, pulled from my retirement savings, and opened my own business. A friend actually sparked the idea by sending me a video and encouraging me to start bungee fitness. She even helped me with startup funds.

Dr. Scott: That’s a powerful story. How did you specifically get interested in bungee fitness?

Annette White: I did my research because I was in my 50s and needed something easier on the joints. Let me be clear—bungee fitness is not an “easy” class. You’ll build muscle and get out of breath. It’s just that it’s lower impact and joint-friendly.

We use a harness system that offsets your body weight. Yes, we do ask for your weight, which some people don’t love, but it’s necessary for proper setup. It’s a very mathematical process to ensure safety and effectiveness. We walk each person through how to use the equipment correctly.

Dr. Scott: I have several patients who absolutely love it. What’s really cool is there’s no age limit, right?

Annette White: Right. I have a 78-year-old client who’s been with me since day one. She’s super fit and used to run marathons, but after a hang gliding accident that left her with too many broken bones to count, she had to stop running. Bungee fitness gave her a way to keep moving. She’s now walking marathons and even runs in the studio with the harness. It’s been incredible to witness.

Dr. Scott: That’s life-changing. When people get stronger, it doesn’t just help them—it ripples out to their families and community.

Annette White: Exactly. I also teach strength classes at the Senior Center four times a week and even at a local nursing home. I tell people: if you want to avoid living in a nursing home, you need to build muscle. Bones get brittle with age; muscles are your support system.

I had endometrial cancer at 45, which led to surgical menopause. No hormones. What do you do? You build muscle. That’s how you kickstart your metabolism again.

Dr. Scott: Yes! You can literally turn the clock back 20 years with strength training.

Annette White: Exactly. And the benefits of exercise last long after the workout ends—better sleep, mental clarity, improved mood. My grandmother had Alzheimer’s, and my mom was terrified she’d get it too. She believed crossword puzzles would help. But research shows it’s not the puzzles—it’s exercise that protects brain health.

Dr. Scott: That’s backed by science. Blood flow to the brain is everything. And the confidence that comes from transforming your health—like your journey from over 300 pounds to 155—is powerful.

Annette White: I always say: give me three months, you’ll feel better. In six months, you’ll see results. In one year, you’ll have muscles popping out. Three hours a week. That’s all it takes. The number one excuse I hear is “I don’t have time.” But come on—three hours?

Dr. Scott: Right. And the fact that you’ve lived it means no one has an excuse. You’ve been there. And bungee fitness is such a unique and accessible tool for people who might be intimidated by traditional gyms.

Annette White: Exactly. And for those using weight loss meds or recovering from obesity—it’s a tool. But you still have to exercise. There’s no magic pill. The exercise helps them maintain their progress and build muscle.

Dr. Scott: And that’s the gift that keeps giving. Annette, thank you so much for sharing your journey and all the great work you’re doing with Bungee Fitness Factory.

Annette White: Thank you for having me. I love what I do, and I’m grateful to be part of helping people get stronger and healthier.
